Arvind Kejriwal and Three Senior AAP Leaders Detained in Delhi

Delhi Police reportedly detained Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi on October 10, 2026, amid heightened security surrounding a planned protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Senior AAP leaders Sanjay Singh, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Durgesh Pathak were also reportedly taken into custody.
The detentions came amid demonstrations organised by opposition leaders and other groups over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Protesters and opposition parties have raised concerns about potential voter exclusions and demanded accountability from the Election Commission.
The planned demonstration at Jantar Mantar called for Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation. Delhi Police implemented extensive security measures across the capital, including barricades, additional personnel and restrictions around selected locations, citing law-and-order concerns.
The detentions added to political tensions between opposition parties and the authorities over electoral procedures and the right to protest. The reported detentions should be distinguished from formal arrests or criminal charges; the specific legal grounds and subsequent status of each AAP leader require confirmation from official statements.
