Dhruv Rathee Alleges Police Are Following Him in Multiple Vehicles

YouTuber Dhruv Rathee alleged on October 14, 2026, that police and Intelligence Bureau (IB) personnel were following him in multiple vehicles. In a video shared on Instagram, Rathee recorded vehicles behind his car and questioned why so many personnel and vehicles were allegedly being deployed to monitor one individual. The identities of the occupants and the claim that they were following him could not be independently verified.
The latest allegation comes days after Rathee was detained ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on October 10. The demonstration was organised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and focused on demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in electoral-roll revision. Rathee was released later, after spending several hours in police custody.
Following his release, Rathee publicly criticised the circumstances of his detention, describing the incident as a kidnapping rather than an arrest. He alleged that people in plain clothes entered his residence in Gurugram and took him away without adequately explaining the action. Police accounts, however, said he had been detained after allegedly refusing warnings against attending a protest for which permission had not been granted.
On October 12, Rathee also claimed that he was under what he described as “unofficial house arrest.” He alleged that approximately 50 police personnel had been stationed outside his residence and that he was being followed whenever he went out. He said the presence of police was preventing him from joining further demonstrations, although the number of personnel and the purpose of their deployment were claims reported from his account.
In his latest Instagram video, Rathee questioned the number of vehicles allegedly trailing him and asked how many police officers and vehicles the authorities had deployed to follow one person. Reports identified a Scorpio and a white car in the video, but the available footage did not independently establish who was inside the vehicles or whether their occupants were police or IB personnel. No independently verified total of the vehicles involved has been established.
The allegations have drawn attention amid wider protests and controversy over police action against people seeking to participate in demonstrations in Delhi. Rathee’s claims about surveillance and the purpose of the vehicles remain unverified, and the reports cited here do not establish an official explanation for the alleged following. Further clarification from the relevant authorities would be needed to determine the identities of the personnel, the number of vehicles involved and the reason for their presence.
