Hasan Mahmud Becomes First Bangladesh Fast Bowler to Take Test Hat-Trick

Bangladesh fast bowler Hasan Mahmud created history on October 11, 2026, by becoming the first fast bowler from Bangladesh to take a hat-trick in Test cricket. He achieved the milestone during the Test match against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi, delivering a crucial spell that strengthened Bangladesh's position in the contest.

Mahmud dismissed three Afghanistan batters in three consecutive deliveries, completing the hat-trick during his bowling spell. The wickets included Ismat Alam, Qais Ahmad and Zia-ur-Rehman, marking a significant moment in Bangladesh's Test cricket history. His performance drew attention as Bangladesh looked to restrict Afghanistan's batting lineup.

With this achievement, Mahmud became the third Bangladesh bowler overall to claim a hat-trick in Test cricket. Alok Kapali had previously achieved the feat in 2003, followed by Sohag Gazi in 2013. However, Mahmud's accomplishment was particularly notable because he became the first Bangladeshi fast bowler to achieve it in the longest format.

The milestone came during the ongoing Bangladesh–Afghanistan Test in Abu Dhabi, where both teams were competing for control of the match. Mahmud's breakthrough spell provided Bangladesh with important wickets and added a historic chapter to the country's cricket record. His performance further highlighted his role as a key member of Bangladesh's pace attack.
