Tamil Nadu CM Vijay Visits Vijayawada to Meet Chandrababu Naidu

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay arrived at Gannavaram Airport near Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, on October 13, 2026, ahead of a meeting with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The visit has drawn attention because of its focus on water-related issues affecting the two southern states.
The discussions are expected to address water supply arrangements and cooperation on projects involving major rivers in the region.
A key issue on the agenda is the supply of Krishna River water to Chennai through the Telugu Ganga project. The project was developed to transport Krishna water to meet Chennai's drinking-water requirements. Tamil Nadu has been seeking the release of its allocated water, making the issue an important subject for discussions between the two state governments.
The leaders are also expected to discuss the proposed Godavari–Krishna–Cauvery river-linking initiative, which aims to improve water distribution across parts of southern India. Such projects involve complex questions concerning water availability, infrastructure, environmental considerations and the interests of different states. Any progress would depend on consultations between the governments and the relevant authorities.
Vijay's visit also includes other scheduled engagements in Vijayawada, including a proposed visit to the Kanaka Durga Temple and participation in Vijayawada Utsav 2.0. The meeting with Chandrababu Naidu provides an opportunity for Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to discuss their water requirements and potential cooperation. The outcome of the talks, including any decisions on water releases or river-linking plans, will depend on official announcements from the two governments.
